Tokyo Olympics Women’s Surfing Predictions

We are expecting the women’s surfing event to create plenty of attention and there is plenty of value in Olympic betting markets.

Names such as Carissa Moore, Stephanie Gilmore and Sally Fitzgibbons headline the shortboard competition and it should be a popular betting event.

Surfing is only rising in popularity with punters and there is always excellent value available. We look at the three best chances to win the gold medal in Tokyo.

Women’s Surfing Predictions

To Win Gold Top Pick – Carissa Moore

Betting against Carissa Moore isn’t a smart move as the 28-year-old Hawaiian is the world’s best surfer.

She is a four-time World Champion and she comes off a stunning 2019 victory, which put her above the rest of the field.

Moore created controversy for wearing the Hawaiian flag instead of the US flag, stating that she has “a little bit” of Native Hawaiian blood, but the comments didn’t go down well.

However, she is a quality surfer that will be tough to beat in Japan. She won three events in 2019 before Covid put an end to the 2020 season. Her wins came in South Africa, France and Australia, so she’s capable of winning around the world and in different conditions.

Moore became an inductee in the Surfers’ Hall of Fame in 2014 and she would love to add an Olympic gold to her impressive record. She heads betting markets at $2.50 and that is much shorter than the second favourite Stephanie Gilmore at $5.

Bet: Carissa Moore @ $2.50

To Win Gold Next Best – Stephanie Gilmore

The Australian might be 33 years old, but she can show the youngster a thing or two about winning.

She is a seven-time World Champion and that can’t be overlooked. Her most recent title win came in 2018 before being beaten by Carissa Moore in 2019.

She failed to win a WSL event in 2019, but she won three events in 2018, including the Rip Curl Pro, Rio Pro and Corona Open in South Africa.

Confidence is key with Stephanie Gilmore and although she hasn’t been as successful of late, that doesn’t mean she’s not a gold medal chance at Tokyo.

Punters get value odds and there is terrific value at $5. Getting double the value of Carissa Moore is ideal and we expect those odds to shorten throughout the week.

Bet: Stephanie Gilmore @ $5

To Win Gold Best Value – Amuro Tsuzuki

The 20-year-old won the Junior World Championship in 2019 and that could translate into winning the Olympic gold.

Tsuzuki gets the benefit of surfing at home and the Shonan native has been respected in betting, which is a good sign.

She became the first Japanese female surfer to be on the Championship Tour in over 20 years, and although she doesn’t have as much experience as her competitors, she could cause an upset.

The local papers have been covering Tsuzuki throughout the lead up. She has a lot of pressure on her shoulders, but punters get lovely odds available and she’s worth having a bob each-way.

Punters get $67 for the Japanese star to win and she should be included on tickets as a saver bet.

Bet: Amuro Tsuzuki @ $67
