Venue: Red Bull Ring, Austria
With Max Verstappen currently sitting pretty at the top of the Formula 1 World standings, the pressure is now on Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton – as they had to Red Bull’s home in Austria. The Styrian Grand Prix has been bulldozed onto the schedule for the past two years due to COVID 19, but the picturesque surrounds of the Red Bull Ring make it an iconic racing venue. Lewis Hamilton will be hoping to draw solace from his win at this race last year but with Sergio Perez having already won this year and going well for Red Bull, it could be another really fascinating race on Sunday afternoon.
Formula 1 Styrian Grand Prix Predictions
F1 Styrian Grand Prix Race Winner
The halfway point of the 2021 Formula One season is almost upon us and with plenty of racing still to be done, it promises to be a thrilling battle in Austria:
Max Verstappen – $2.25
With a 12-point lead in the Driver’s Championship, Max Verstappen is very much the early season pacesetter. Red Bull look to have concocted a seriously quick car and in Verstappen, they look to have one of the best drivers on the grid in their ranks. His win at the French Grand Prix showed real maturity last weekend and whilst beating Lewis Hamilton over the course of the season still looks a long way off, another win here in home conditions would strengthen his title bid significantly.
Lewis Hamilton – $2.5
Seven time World Champion Lewis Hamilton hasn’t been at his best so far in 2021 but he still sits in second in the Driver’s Championship, very much in touching distance of Max Verstappen and Red Bull. He won this event last year and there were signs at the French Grand Prix last week that he could be finally getting to grips with the Mercedes car this year. He is in the unusual position of having to play catch up, but he is a fierce competitor and can never be discarded in any race.
Sergio Perez – $11.00
Mexican Sergio Perez picked up his first win for Red Bull at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix earlier this month and he looks to be getting to grips with life at Red Bull. Verstappen remains the priority for the team, but Perez has shown plenty of promise since his arrival from Racing Point and few would bet against him going well again here. Driving conditions in Austria should also suit Perez, as he looks to strengthen his grip on third place in the Driver’s Championship.
Valtteri Bottas – $15.00
So far, it has been a season to forget for Valtteri Bottas, who simply cannot seem to get the best out of this Mercedes car. Mistakes have littered his campaign thus far and the Finn will be desperate to put it right here. He has notched three podiums so far this season and resides in 5th in the Driver’s Championship and he has the experience to know that one or two good performances could propel him right back into the mix again in 2021.
First Driver to Retire
The Styrian Grand Prix is one of the newest races on the Formula One calendar and the unfamiliarity of the course could put pay to a few drivers:-
Nikita Mazepin – $5.50
Haas and their new Russian driver Nikita Mazepin have endured a horrible start to the 2021 Formula One season and the lack of control Mazepin appears to have behind the wheel, makes him a real candidate to bomb out early here at the Styrian Grand Prix.
George Russell – $20.00
Williams are still battling away at the back of the grid and whilst George Russell is an accomplished driver set for big things, it can be a little congested from the off at the Styrian Grand Prix. He is one of 4 drivers not to pick up a point this year and in forcing it somewhat, he could get caught up in some early trouble in Austria.
F1 Styrian Grand Prix Top Six Finish
2021 presents a golden opportunity to many drivers in Formula One to make a name for themselves and they will all be looking to do that from the outset here at the Styrian Grand Prix:-
Charles Leclerc – $1.50
Despite not landing a podium as yet this year, Charles Leclerc has looked in good form, for a Ferrari car that looks to be slowly finding its feet. Conditions should suit here in Austria, and he looks excellent value to finish in the top 6 this weekend.
Lando Norris – $1.57
McLaren’s Lando Norris is sitting pretty in fourth in the Driver’s Championship, and he could be one to look out for here. Two podium finishes have been a clear sign of progress this year for the young Brit, and he looks good value to finish in the top 6 in Austria this weekend.
Sebastian Vettel – $4
German Sebastian Vettel rolled back the years at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix earlier this month to finish second and he should be relishing this challenge in Austria this week. His Aston Martin car is a relative unknown but if things go his way, he looks way overpriced to finish in the top 6.
F1 Styrian Grand Prix Best Bets
Race Winner: Max Verstappen – $2.25
First Driver to Retire: George Russell – $20.00
Top Six Finish: Charles Leclerc – $1.50
