We first came across double ball roulette at an online casino a couple of years ago and almost scrolled past it because we thought it was just a gimmick.
Played it anyway out of curiosity and it ended up being one of the more interesting roulette variants we have tried. Here is how it works.
What makes it different
Regular roulette has one ball. Double ball roulette has two. Both balls get launched into the wheel at the same time and land in two separate pockets.
That one change creates a completely different betting dynamic because now you have two results from every single spin.
Some bets need just one of the two balls to land in the right spot and others need both.
How the bets work
The table layout looks the same as a normal roulette table and all the usual bets are available. The difference is in how they pay and what you need to happen.
For outside bets like red or black, odd or even, and high or low, you need both balls to land on your selection for the bet to win.
Both balls on red, you get paid. One red and one black, you lose.
This makes outside bets harder to hit than regular roulette which threw us off the first few times we played because we kept thinking one ball on red should have been enough.
For inside bets like straight up numbers, splits, and streets, you only need one of the two balls to land on your selection.
Having two balls in play means you effectively get two chances to hit your number on every spin.
The odds of hitting a single number on a regular roulette wheel are 1 in 37 on a European table.
With two balls you roughly double your chances on any inside bet.
The jackpot bet
This is the one that got our attention. If both balls land in the same pocket on the same spin there is usually a massive payout attached to it.
We have seen it pay anywhere from 1200 to 1 up to 1300 to 1 depending on the casino.
It almost never happens but we throw a small chip on it every few spins because the payout is ridiculous when it does come in.
We have not hit it ourselves yet but we have seen it happen once during a session and the chat went crazy.
Is there a strategy?
Same as regular roulette honestly. The house edge is still there and no betting system is going to overcome it long term.
The edge on double ball roulette varies by bet type but it is roughly in the same range as standard European roulette. We just play it for fun and keep our sessions short.
The one thing we would say is that if you are used to grinding outside bets on regular roulette you need to adjust your expectations with double ball.
Needing both balls on red instead of just one changes the hit rate dramatically and your bankroll will drain faster if you do not size your bets down to account for that.
We learned that in our first session when we sat down betting the same amounts we would on a normal table and blew through our balance in about fifteen minutes.
