The NFL season is only days away, so we look at the best futures markets. We cover everything from the Super Bowl to MVP, in the hopes of finding punters the best value.
Super Bowl LVI has two major contenders; Kansas City and Tampa Bay, but we analyse the form to see if punters can find value with other teams.
We also look at who could win MVP, Coach of the Year, and Comeback Player of the Year.
NFL Season Predictions
Super Bowl LVI Futures Betting Predictions
The Kansas City Chiefs were no match for Tom Brady in the Super Bowl last season, but we think they can get back to the promised land.
The 2020 Super Bowl winners didn’t have much luck with injuries throughout the season, and we think their defence has improved enough to become the ultimate NFL team.
Having Patrick Mahomes at the quarterback position is an obvious bonus. He is one of, if not the best, quarterback in the NFL, so he’s the man you want throwing the ball.
Mahomes has a quality receiving unit to throw to, including Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman and Travis Kelce. There are some lesser names on the roster, but we have little doubt Mahomes will turn them into stars when the season is over.
Having Clyde Edwards-Helaire at running back is a positive. He could start the season on the sidelines, but he will return and be a dominant runner.
$6 for the Chiefs is a good price, and we expect it to firm throughout the season.
We also like the Green Bay Packers to make a run. They looked good last season before coming up short in the playoffs, but Aaron Rodgers is eyeing another Super Bowl bid.
The Packers have a strong roster, so there will be no excuses. $13 for the Packers is a price worth locking in as a saver bet.
Bet: Kansas City Chiefs @ $6
NFL Regular Season MVP
Patrick Mahomes must be considered given that we’re picking the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl. However, our money goes on Aaron Rodgers.
Despite being a future Hall of Fame quarterback, we feel like he has a point to prove. He’s still an elite player, and he has a receiving roster good enough to see him produce big numbers.
He won the MVP in 2011, 2014 and last season. We think he could have an even bigger year in 2021, so he’s good enough to win back-to-back MVP titles.
Punters get $11 for Rodgers to win, and we wouldn’t turn down that value.
Another player worth having a bet on is Baker Mayfield. The Cleveland Browns quarterback is an enigmatic player, but he’s capable of putting together a fantastic season. He has an electric arm, and if his team stays healthy, he could lead the Browns deep into the playoffs.
Bet: Aaron Rodgers @ $11
NFL Comeback Player of the Year
We got the chocolates last season with Alex Smith at $6.50, who returned from a potential life-threatening leg injury to play well for Washington.
Dak Prescott leads the betting, but we can’t put our trust in the Dallas quarterback. Instead, we think Christian McCaffrey bounces back and has a big season for the Carolina Panthers.
The former college standout at Stanford has been treated with caution since arriving in the NFL, but it’s about time he was allowed to have a big season. We think it’s likely, and he’ll see a good amount of ball with Carolina in 2021.
“When you put it all together in the context of what he’s done in his career, college and pro, and his ability to stay on the field and play the position he does, I’m not really worried about him,” said ESPN analyst Stephania Bell.
We’re not worried either, so he’s worth backing at $8.
Bet: Christian McCaffrey @ $8
NFL Coach of the Year
The Coach of the Year is always a subjective category, but we think Kyle Shanahan is a good chance of winning.
The San Francisco 49ers head coach has plenty to work with this season, following a disappointing 2020. The 49ers should improve significantly, and Shanahan has always been considered a top coach.
Leading the market is Brandon Staley, who coaches the Los Angeles Chargers. We couldn’t put our hard-earned money on someone associated with the Chargers, so back Shanahan at value odds.
Bet: Kyle Shanahan @ $17
NFL Last Winless Team
Identifying the teams playing for a high draft pick isn’t too difficult. The Jacksonville Jaguars did it last season and we expect the Detroit Lions to go draft hunting in 2021.
The Lions are an awful franchise and we’re not surprised bookmakers have them as $2.70 favourites to be the last team to win.
It’s not an easy start to the season for the Lions, which includes games against the 49ers, Packers, Ravens, Bears and Vikings. Beating the Bears will be their best chance, but the $2.70 is worth taking.
Bet: Detroit Lions @ $2.70
