09/04/2021 NCAAF College Football Picks & Predictions

College Football returns this week and there is an excellent slate of games on Saturday, which features the best teams in action.

We look at Alabama vs Miami, Indiana vs Iowa, and Georgia vs Clemson. All six teams are nationally ranked, so it should be a great opening Sunday of the new season.

Saturday College Football Picks

Alabama Crimson Tide vs Miami Hurricanes @ Mercedes-Benz Stadium

Alabama looks to defend their national title and opening against the Miami Hurricanes should give them a good test.

Alabama lost several players to the NFL draft, as it always does, but it is one of the best recruiting teams in the nation, so punters shouldn’t be worried.

It comes off a championship game win over Ohio State. The 52-24 win was one of the more dominant final games in recent history, so there should be plenty of confidence with the Crimson Tide on Sunday.

Miami comes off consecutive losses to end their 2020 campaign. The Hurricanes lost to UNC 62-26 before losing to Oklahoma State 37-34 in a bowl game.

Expectations are always high for Miami, but it rarely delivers. For that reason, bookmakers have Alabama as –19.5 favourites and we think that line is fair.

Take Alabama to score in what should be a one-sided game.

Bet: Alabama Crimson Tide –19.5 @ $1.89

Indiana Hoosiers vs Iowa Hawkeyes @ Kinnick Stadium

We are surprised Indiana has a lower rank than the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Hoosiers ended their 2020 season with a loss to Mississippi and Iowa ended its season with a long winning streak.

The Hawkeyes defeated Illinois before beating Wisconsin 28-7 to close out the season. They also scored wins over Nebraska and Minnesota, so it was a successful season.

Bookmakers have cottoned on and installed the Hawkeyes as $1.47 favourites to beat Indiana. To the Hoosiers’ credit, they only lost to Ohio State by seven points last season, which was a good result.

They defeated Wisconsin 14-6 in the penultimate game, so punters can use that as a guide. Iowa looked better against Wisconsin and scored 28 points on the Badgers, so offence is where this game could be won and lost.

The line is only 3.5 points, so bookmakers expect a tight contest. We think the playing at home is a huge boost for Iowa, and that should be enough to see it cover the spread.

Bet: Iowa Hawkeyes –3.5 @ $1.85

Georgia Bulldogs vs Clemson Tigers @ Bank of America Stadium

Two powerhouse football teams battle on Sunday as the Clemson Bulldogs host the Georgia Bulldogs.

Clemson had yet another solid season in 2020; losing in the semifinal to Ohio State, but it didn’t do much wrong for most of the year.

The Tigers quarterback has departed for the NFL, but they have found a capable replacement and we wouldn’t be too worried about Trevor Lawrence not being there.

We thought Clemson would be shorter with bookmakers, but Georgia is getting plenty of respect. It ended the season with four consecutive wins, but a loss to Florida with five weeks left knocked it out of playoff contention.

The Bulldogs are always there or there abouts, so they’re a dangerous side. However, we don’t think they’ll be able to match it with Clemson on this occasion.

Clemson always starts the season well, and we’re happy with the $1.62 available. We’re prepared to take the –2.5 for a bit more value, especially for a team that has rarely lost over the last three years.

We expect this line to move on game day, and 2.5 is a key number.

Bet: Clemson Tigers –2.5 @ $1.77
