The college football season continues on Thursday with three quality games and we have our best NCAAF betting picks available.
Action starts with Central Michigan vs Oklahoma State and continues with West Virginia vs Pittsburgh and VMI vs Wake Forest.
Thursday College Football Picks
Central Michigan vs Oklahoma State @ Boone Pickens Stadium
The Oklahoma State Cowboys defeated Notre Dame to win a bowl game last season and they have been respected to win the opening contest.
They face the Central Michigan Chippewas, who closed out last season with five consecutive wins and that form stacks up nicely in the Mid-American Conference. However, it doesn’t stack up well against a Big 12 team.
Oklahoma State has the class edge and it often starts the season with a bang. The Cowboys also defeated Oklahoma last November, so anything close to that form should be enough to put up a big score on the board.
Ranked 12th in pre-season polls, the Cowboys are looking to make a statement and we’re in their camp, so take the –21.5 line, despite needing to cover by more than three touchdowns.
Bet: Oklahoma State –21.5 @ $1.98
West Virginia vs Pittsburgh @ Acrisure Stadium
Pittsburgh is a ranked team but it faces a tough test against the West Virginia Mountaineers.
The Panthers defeated the likes of Wake Forest and North Carolina last season, which holds them in good stead and their offence could be too strong.
West Virigina also scored some notable wins last season, including a 31-23 victory over Texas. However, it was disappointing when scoring only six points against Minnesota in December.
A better offensive effort is needed against Pittsburgh at home and bookmakers have a generous line of –7.5 for the Panthers, who could run away as double-digit winners.
We expect the Panthers to be the better team and shake off the rust. It might require a good second half, but the Mountaineers rarely come out of the gates running.
Most of the early money has come for West Virginia with the points, but have confidence with the favourites.
Bet: Pittsburgh –7.5 @ $1.93
VMI vs Wake Forest @ Truist Field
We’re expecting a one-sided affair between VMI and Wake Forest, so bookmakers should release a sizable line.
VMI plays its games in the Southern Conference against the likes of Mercer and Samford, so it’s not a strong conference and it ended last season with three consecutive losses.
Wake Forest had a good season which ended with a bowl win over Rutgers. Its last two losses came to ranked teams Pittsburgh and North Carolina State, so those efforts can be forgiven, especially against a team like VMI.
Playing at home is another positive and the 22nd-ranked team should put up a big number. The Demon Deacons are a high-scoring team and we think they could hit the 50 points mark on Friday, so take whatever line bookmakers offer.
We expect it to be somewhere in the –38.5 region.
Bet: Wake Forest
