10/09/2021 NCAAF College Football Picks & Predictions

College football continues this week and we have a betting preview for three of the biggest games on Saturday.

We look the best bets for Oklahoma vs Texas, Penn State vs Iowa and LSU vs Kentucky.

Saturday College Football Picks

Oklahoma Sooners vs Texas Longhorns @ Cotton Bowl

The Oklahoma Sooners haven’t found life easy of late, but they are still 5-0 and on track to finish in the top four.

They scored a 37-31 win over Kansas State last week, which was too close for comfort. However, they haven’t been playing their best and they’re still winning, which is a good sign.

Oklahoma gets a good test against Texas, which has rattled off three consecutive wins following a loss to Arkansas. The Longhorns have snuck into the rankings after wins over Rice, Texas Tech and TCU, and the offence has been clicking.

They are averaging 43.8 points per game, so if the Sooners don’t turn up to the party, Texas could run away with it.

We think Oklahoma is the better team, and despite playing on the road, we’re happy to take the $1.57 available. We think it will be a close game, so we’re opting for the moneyline option instead of the –3.5 points, which could fall a half-point short.

Bet: Oklahoma Sooners @ $1.57

Penn State Nittany Lions vs Iowa Hawkeyes @ Kinnick Stadium

Top four teams do battle on Sunday as the 5-0 Nittany Lions travel to Iowa to face the 5-0 Hawkeyes.

Penn State scored a 24-0 win over Indiana last week, which was an outstanding defensive performance. It has win over two ranked teams in Auburn and Wisconsin, but Iowa could be playing the better football.

The Hawkeyes scored a 51-14 win over Maryland last week, and they have already beaten Iowa State and Indiana with ease. They have been impressive to date, so we’re not surprised they’re the favourites at home.

Bookmakers have framed a tight market, which isn’t a shock. Iowa is the slight $1.80 favourite with home field advantage, and we give them the slight edge because of it. Playing at home is a big help, so that tips the scales in their favour.

We’re taking the $1.80 as we think the price will firm closer to game time.

Bet: Iowa Hawkeyes @ $1.80

LSU Tigers vs Kentucky Wildcats @ Kroger Field

Kentucky has surprised most after going 5-0 and its win last week over Florida was a good example of how well it’s playing.

The Wildcats won 20-13 against a top 10 team, so it was an outstanding effort. It backed up a tough effort when beating South Carolina, so it bodes well against the Tigers.

LSU is 3-2, and despite some concerns, it always poses a threat to teams like Kentucky. The Tigers lost to Auburn in a close game last week, which ended a three-game winning streak.

There is a lot of pressure on the LSU defence, which has allowed 23 points per game. The offence is doing its thing at 31.4 PPG, and quarterback Max Johnson has thrown 16 touchdowns and only four interceptions.

We respect the performances of Kentucky, but it’s now or never for LSU, and we think it comes up with the goods.

Punters get value odds at $2.35, so it’s worth including.

Bet: LSU Tigers @ $2.35
