We love NCAAF college football action and we have our best expert NCAAF picks and predictions for three games this Saturday.
The Championship games are being played this week and we look at the biggest games on the NCAAF calendar.
We preview Northwestern vs. Ohio State, Clemson vs. Notre Dame and Alabama vs. Florida, which will all have implications on the top four spots for the College Football playoffs in January.
Saturday College Football Picks
Northwestern vs. Ohio State @ Lucas Oil Stadium
The rules were changed to suit Ohio State, who are 5-0 after an interrupted season. In any other year, no team can qualify for the Big Ten Championship game with only five games being played.
However, most punters believe Ohio State deserves a chance at the title and they have been one of the better teams this season.
Northwestern could cause them some troubles and although they lost to Michigan State three weeks ago, they rebounded with a win over Illinois.
The Wildcats will need to be on fire defensively, given the Buckeyes average 46.6 points per game. That could be the difference in the game and slowing down Justin Fields will be easier said than done.
Bookmakers are not giving Northwestern a chance of winning this game, let alone making it close. The margin is currently set at 20 points and that makes for an interesting betting contest.
There is no doubting the ability of Ohio State to put up a big number on Northwestern, but beating the #14 by 20 points isn’t easy.
However, the Buckeyes will want to make a lasting impression on the minds of the playoff selectors. They could produce their best performance of the season and score a monumental victory over Northwestern.
Bet: Ohio State Buckeyes -20
Clemson vs. Notre Dame @ Bank of America Stadium
The ACC Championship game couldn’t be any bigger this season and it has massive implications on the College Football playoffs.
Clemson and Notre Dame are ranked inside the top four, but one team will suffer the loss. Clemson are always thought of higher than Notre Dame, but Clemson already has a loss to Notre Dame this season.
Therefore, if Clemson are to lose for the second time this season, would they deserve a spot in the playoffs? That’s what is on the line this Sunday and it should be a cracking contest.
When these teams met earlier this season, Clemson didn’t have future #1 draft pick Trevor Lawrence due to Covid. His form since returning has been incredible and their 45-10 win over Virginia Tech two weeks ago was classy.
It has been a little harder for Notre Dame since scoring a 47-40 overtime win against the then #1 ranked Clemson Tigers. They defeated Boston College by 14, UNC by 14 and Syracuse by 24 points.
Some of those games were closer than expected, but they are still undefeated at 10-0 and they know they can beat this Clemson outfit.
However, Clemson are now fully fit and bookmakers have them as the $1.20 favourites. Notre Dame are getting 10.5 points with bookmakers, which could be too much to pass up.
We are expecting a close game and the Fighting Irish with the double-digit start is too good to pass up.
Bet: Notre Dame +10.5
Alabama vs. Florida @ Mercedes-Benz Stadium
This game would have had more importance had Florida not surprisingly lost to LSU last week as the massive favourites.
It was a shock loss for the Gators, who previously had an 8-1 record and were making a claim for the top four spot. However, they have the ability to bounce back in what is still an important SEC Championship game.
When you have Kyle Trask in your team anything is possible. That’s what the Gators have at their disposal, but it will be defensively where they could struggle.
Alabama is scoring 49.5 points per game and Florida gives up 26.3 per game. Coupled with that, Alabama’s defense only gives up 16.8 points per game.
The trouble for Florida will be having the ball in their hands long enough to keep Alabama’s high-powered offense off the field. It is possible that it could happen, but the mindset of both teams is going in different directions.
Florida is on the backfoot following their loss, whereas Alabama is humming after their 52-3 win over Arkansas. That could be enough to see Alabama could out well ahead at full time.
Bet: Alabama -17
