We have betting picks and predictions for three of the best NBA games played this Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
NBA fans have been loving the action so far and despite there being no crowds, the level of play has been outstanding.
Wednesday is always a great NBA card and we look at Jazz vs. Nets, Spurs vs. Clippers, and Bulls vs. Trail Blazers.
NBA Betting Picks
Utah Jazz vs. Brooklyn Nets @ Barclays Center
Not many experts had Brooklyn posting a losing record after seven games and their inconsistent lineup has hurt them to date.
However, the Nets should field a strong team on Wednesday, which is likely to include both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Durant has been lights out when he has played this season, averaging 28.2 points per game.
Irving has chipped in with 6.3 assists and we still favour the Nets to go all the way this season, but they need to start producing results on the court.
They are 3-4 after losing consecutive games to Atlanta and Washington. They also lost to Charlotte and Memphis earlier this year, which are losses you don’t want on your record.
Utah has made a positive start to the season with a 4-2 record. They are 3-0 away from home and they have won three of their last four games.
Those wins came against the Thunder, Clippers and Spurs, which are three quality Western Conference teams. Having those wins on their CV helps as they prepare to take on a quality backcourt duo of Irving and Durant.
Mike Conley and Rudy Gobert have been doing their thing and that’s with Donovan Mitchell playing below his best to start 2021.
We expect a close game between two quality teams, but if Brooklyn are anywhere near their best, they should handle the Jazz on home court.
Bet: Brooklyn Nets to win
San Antonio Spurs vs. Los Angeles Clippers @ STAPLES Center
The Clippers put their 5-2 record on the line as they welcome the Demar DeRozan and the 2-4 San Antonio Spurs to town.
Los Angeles scored back-to-back wins have Portland and Minnesota before losing by six points to Utah. They were outmuscled late, but they rebounded with a 112-107 win over Phoenix, which isn’t an easy team to beat.
Paul George is leading the way with 25.1 points per game and punters are just hoping Playoff Paul doesn’t make an appearance too often.
Kawhi Leonard is playing consistent basketball and his chemistry with teammates appears to be better than it was last season.
The Clippers will be well-favoured to beat the Spurs, who are in the middle of a four-game losing streak to Western Conference teams.
San Antonio is scoring more points per game than the Clippers, which is surprising. They are 2-4 on the season and playing without LaMarcus Aldridge. However, Demar DeRozan has stepped up to the plate with 21.3 points per game.
The Spurs need to find a way to end the four-game skid, which included losses to the Pelicans, Lakers, and Jazz. The most recent loss wasn’t a good showing, losing 130-109 to the Jazz, but they pushed the Lakers close last week and got unlucky in the process.
We expect bookmakers to have the Clippers as –7.5 favourites, which should be enough for Spurs’ punters to cash in with the points.
Bet: San Antonio Spurs + points
Chicago Bulls vs. Portland Trail Blazers @ Moda Center
After a poor start to the season the Chicago Bulls have made a solid comeback over the last week. They have won three of their last four games, with the only loss coming to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Chicago has beaten Washington and Dallas over the last seven days and the 118-108 win over the Mavericks stands out as a quality outing.
It should give them confidence going forward and despite having a young team, they will continue to grow as they become more mature.
Zach LaVine is showing why he’s a top-rated player with 24.6 points, and Wendell Carter Jr has been a beast on the boards for the Bulls.
However, they now face the talented backcourt duo of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, who have been lighting up the court in recent times despite a 3-3 record.
They scored quality wins over the Rockets, Lakers, and Warriors, but they will want to forget their last outing. Steph Curry dropped a career-high 62 points on the Blazers, who containing players needs to be addressed.
Looking to bounce back are the Blazers, who will enjoy heading home after a four-game road trip. That could make the difference and we expect them to be tough to beat.
Early indications are that the Blazers will be 5.5-point favourites with bookmakers and they are capable of covering the spread.
Bet: Portland Trail Blazers to win
