MLB Betting Picks โ€“ Wednesday May 19th, 2021

Major League Baseball continues on Wednesday and we have picks and predictions for three of the best games.

On the cards is Rockies vs Padres, Marlins vs Phillies and Red Sox vs Blue Jays. All three games will be high-quality contests and there is excellent value available with bookmakers.

MLB Betting Picks

Colorado Rockies vs San Diego Padres

The Colorado Rockies are having a rough time of it and theyโ€™re hoping to avoid four consecutive losses.

Itโ€™s a different story for the San Diego Padres, who come off four straight wins over St. Louis and one over Colorado. The 7-0 victory over the Rockies on Tuesday was a fine effort and it could be more of the same on Thursday.

Joe Musgrove heads to the mound for San Diego after going 3-4 with an impressive ERA of 2.86. He also has a WHIP of 0.96, which ranks in the top 10 in the league.

He faces Chi Chi Gonzalez, who is 2-1 with a 4.79 ERA. Gonzalez has shown glimpses of quality form, but Musgrove gets the nod in the pitching department.

The biggest concern for Colorado is its record away from home. It has only two wins and 15 losses on the road, which is making life tough.

Weโ€™re not surprised at the money coming for the Padres and because the head-to-head line is so short, weโ€™re picking Padres โ€“1.5 runs for more value.

Bet: San Diego Padres โ€“1.5

Miami Marlins vs Philadelphia Phillies @ Citizens Bank Park

The Phillies are hoping a home stand against the Marlins can get them back on track after losing three of their last four.

Philadelphia enters with back-to-back losses to Toronto, including a 10-8 loss earlier this week. It has been an inconsistent season to date, but with the likes of Bryce Harper and Rhys Hoskins in the team, there are no excuses.

Playing at home has been successful for Philadelphia, which has a 13-6 record at Citizens Bank Park. Itโ€™s much better than the away record of Miami (10-13).

The Marlins have endured a long road trip and itโ€™s not about to end. They come off a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, which rates highly.

Despite having a team average of just .229, the Marlins have been able to keep their head above water. They are 18-22 and fourth in the National League East, but only 3.5 games back of New York.

They enter this game as a slight underdog and they are 15-10 when not favoured in betting markets. Philadelphia is 5-15 as the favorite, so that is a key statistic.

Having Trevor Rogers on the mound helps Miami and he has been one of the best pitchers for the team. We think with Rogers on the mound, punters get excellent value for the Marlins.

Bet: Miami Marlins to win

Boston Red Sox vs Toronto Blue Jays @ TD Ballpark

Boston has exceeded expectations with a 25-17 record and itโ€™s capable of bouncing back from a 6-5 defeat at Atlanta.

The Red Soxโ€™ form prior included three consecutive wins over Oakland and the Angels, including a 9-0 thrashing of Los Angeles. Those performances rank highly and an experienced pitcher in Garrett Richards takes the mound.

Richards is 3-2 with an ERA of 3.89, and although he has given up 18 walks, he has stuck out 38 batters this season. He faces Ross Stripling, who has allowed 28 hits from 21.1 innings pitched.

Toronto has won four of its last five and comes off a 10-run performance against Philadelphia. The Blue Jays won the most recent game against Boston 6-3, so thatโ€™s in their favour.

However, punters are getting value odds for Boston and itโ€™s too good to pass up. The $2.10 is a value price for the American League East leaders and itโ€™s worth taking.

Bet: Boston Red Sox to win
