Major League Baseball continues on Wednesday and we have picks and predictions for three of the best games.
On the cards is Padres vs Rockies, Phillies vs Nationals, and Athletics vs Red Sox. All three games will be high-quality contests and betting is available.
MLB Betting Picks
San Diego Padres vs Colorado Rockies @ Coors Field
The Rockies are going through a rocky period after losing their last three games against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Colorado scored eight runs during the three-game series, but all eight runs came in a 9-8 loss. It failed to score a run in two games, which doesn’t bode well against a Padres outfit coming off an 11-run outing.
Consistency has been tough for the Padres, but they are in contention at 19-16. The 11-1 win over San Francisco ranks as their best win this season, so the confidence levels are high.
Fernando Tatis Jr has been playing well, but the most consistent performer is Eric Hosmer. He is batting .307 and has knocked in 20 runs.
Colorado lacks quality hitters and starting pitcher Austin Gomber has allowed plenty of runs this season. Going up against him is Blake Snell for the Padres, who is 1-0 with an ERA of 4.15.
It’s a solid enough stat line to beat the Rockies and we expect plenty of money to come for the visiting side.
Bet: San Diego Padres to win
Philadelphia Phillies vs Washington Nationals @ Nationals Park
Philadelphia was riding a winning streak before dropping its last two games to the Atlanta Braves.
The 6-1 loss on Monday wasn’t a good result, but the Phillies are good enough to bounce back against their National League East rival.
Thursday’s game is the first of 19 games between them this season, and Washington is hoping it can kick-start its season.
The Nationals are 13-17 following four losses from the last five games. They scored an 11-4 win over the Yankees to start that series, but fell back to earth with two one-run games.
Washington ranks worse than Philadelphia in runs scored, hits, and home runs. However, they rank better with starting pitcher.
Two quality pitchers battle as Jon Lester takes the mound for Washington against Zack Wheeler, who is 3-2 with an ERA of 2.83.
Lester is 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA, but he has pitched only 10 innings. He has allowed nine hits and four walks, which doesn’t match up well to Wheeler’s impressive stats. He has allowed only 34 hits from 47.2 innings, with 49 strikeouts.
Philadelphia is the favourite and we think it will get the job done on the road.
Bet: Philadelphia Phillies to win @ $1.70
Oakland Athletics vs Boston Red Sox @ Fenway Park
We have been impressed with what the Boston Red Sox have achieved so far this season. They are 22-14 and currently lead the competitive American League East.
Also leading their division are the Oakland Athletics, which have a 2.5-game lead over Houston in the American League West. They have lost three of their last five games, but Oakland is more than capable of taking down the leagues’ best.
Boston owns four wins from its last five games. The most recent loss came on Tuesday against Baltimore, but they have a significant pitching edge for this matchup.
Eduardo Rodriquez is 5-0 with an ERA of 3.82 and he has pitched best for the Red Sox. He has pitched 33 innings for 33 hits, six walks and five home runs. Boston hits well for Rodriquez, which is always needed.
Oakland sends out James Kaprielian, who is making his season debut. He has pitched only 3.2 innings in his career for four hits and two walks.
We’re not sure what to expect from Kaprielian, but Rodriquez has the significant experience edge and that should be the difference.
Bet: Boston Red Sox to win
