Tottenham and Liverpool continue to set the pace in the Premier League, with impressive wins over Arsenal and Wolves respectively last time out. Chelsea are hot on their heels and looking like a side capable of scoring plenty of goals whilst both Manchester clubs are sneaking into the picture with over a quarter of the season played. At the bottom of the table, Sheffield United are still awaiting their first win of the season whilst the problems continue to mount for West Bromwich Albion and Fulham.
Here are our picks for the next round of fixtures in the Premier League:
EPL Week 12 Tips
Leeds vs West Ham United – Elland Road
West Ham United ($3.35)
Two sides looking to stay in the top half of the table face off in Yorkshire as Leeds host West Ham at Elland Road. The Whites have impressed throughout their stay in the Premier League so far, but their relative inexperience came to the fore in defeat against Chelsea last time out. Similarly, West Ham looked to have Manchester United on the ropes last weekend – only for the Red Devils to stage a late comeback. Both sides have impressed so far this season in the league and with goals guaranteed, this should be an excellent match that could end in an entertaining draw.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw
Wolves vs Aston Villa – Molineux
Aston Villa ($3.45)
A West Midlands Derby kicks off the Saturday Premier League programme as Wolves host Aston Villa. Nuno Esporito Santo’s men were roundly thumped on the road at Liverpool last time out and look to be missing the influential Raul Jimenez in forward areas. They will be hoping a return to their old stomping ground could bring about a change in fortunes. For Villa meanwhile, they will see this as a free hit – after an impressive start to the season that has seen them beat the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal. This promises to be an excellent encounter and with no love lost between the two sides, a fiery draw could be on the cards.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw
Newcastle United vs West Bromwich Albion – St James’s Park
Newcastle United ($2.45)
West Bromwich Albion ($3.65)
Newcastle will be hoping to return refreshed following an enforced break due to COVID 19 as they welcome West Bromwich Albion to St James’s Park. The Toon have been in good nick all season, epitomised by their 2-0 win at Crystal Palace last time out and they tend to be tough to beat at home too. West Brom meanwhile were hammered 5-1 at home by Crystal Palace and need to show a response here. With only 1 win in the league so far, they look to have their work cut out to stay up but Slavan Bilic will be hoping his side can display character here. This should be a comfortable home win for Newcastle, who look overpriced here.
Betting tip: Newcastle United to win the match
Newcastle United to win 2-0
Manchester United vs Manchester City – Old Trafford
Manchester United ($4.5)
Manchester City ($1.8)
The Manchester Derby is the headline fixture in the Premier League this weekend, with both sides needing points. United crashed out of the Champions League in midweek and have unrest in the camp yet go into this game a point ahead of their archrivals in the league table. By contrast, City have cruised through their Champions League group and have endured their troubles in the Premier League. The blues have beaten Fulham and Burnley comfortably in their last two games however and should be full of confidence here. This could be an excellent game and with local pride at stake, a draw could well be on the cards.
Betting tip: The match to finish as a draw
Everton vs Chelsea – Goodison Park
High flying Chelsea travel to Everton, to take on a side managed by their former boss Carlo Ancelotti. The Toffees were the early season pace setters but have struggled in recent weeks – particularly in defensive areas. They continue to carry a real goal threat however and should provide a stern test for the Chelsea defence. Frank Lampard’s Chelsea sit 3rd in the league table and look to have genuine title aspirations this term. Their free-flowing football has caught the eye and they will be hoping to show defensive resolve that has been the key question of them thus far this term. Everton will take the game to Chelsea, but the blues are in good form and should come out on top in this one.
Betting tip: Chelsea to win the match and both teams to score
Chelsea to win 2-1
Southampton vs Sheffield United – St Mary’s Stadium
Sheffield United ($5.3)
Fifth placed Southampton take on winless Sheffield United on the South Coast, with both sides in need of points for different reasons. The Saints have been one of the success stories of the league this term and their late 2-1 win at Brighton on Monday was testament to their continual resolve as a side. This is a game they should be winning at home and they will be looking to make a statement here. The Blades meanwhile suffered a late loss at home to Leicester City last time out and look a side low on confidence. They sit bottom of the table and they will be all too aware of the urgency with which they need to turn things around this season. Southampton should have too much at home for Sheffield United here.
Betting tip: Southampton to win the match
Southampton to win 2-0
Crystal Palace vs Tottenham – Selhurst Park
Crystal Palace ($5)
A London Derby between Crystal Palace and Tottenham is one of the headline acts on Sunday and it promises to be a cracker. Palace won impressively at West Bromwich Albion last time out and look to be a side going places under Roy Hodgson. They carry a serious goal threat and should trouble the notorious Spurs defence. Tottenham meanwhile look to be the form side in the division and Jose Mourinho is spreading his magic once more. They comfortably beat local rivals Arsenal last time out and should be full of confidence on arrival here at Selhurst Park. This should be an entertaining game with Tottenham most likely to come out on top.
Betting tip: Tottenham to win the match
Tottenham to win 2-1
Fulham vs Liverpool – Craven Cottage
Fulham take on Liverpool in what promises to be a fascinating encounter on the River Thames. The Cottagers have showed resolve this season without getting too many results and with only two wins to their name this campaign, they will be aware of the need to start picking up points. Liverpool meanwhile continue to trundle on getting results, despite having many of their best players injured. With Champions League progress secured, they can now concentrate on the league during the busy festive period. Fulham will have a go at Liverpool, but the reds should come out on top here.
Betting tip: Liverpool to win the match and both teams to score
Liverpool to win 3-1
Arsenal vs Burnley – Emirates Stadium
Under pressure Mikel Arteta will be hoping his Arsenal side can show some resolve as they host Burnley. The Gunners came up short in the North London Derby last time out and look to be a side low on confidence. They sit in the bottom half of the table but know they have time on their side to put things right. Burnley, meanwhile, picked up a good point at home to Everton last time out but look to be involved in a relegation scrap again this season. Sean Dyche will be all too aware of how this game is a free hit and that could suit Arsenal, who could pick up a valuable win here.
Betting tip: Arsenal to win the match to nil
Arsenal to win 3-0
Leicester City vs Brighton – King Power Stadium
Leicester City ($2)
Leicester City will be hoping to continue their winning streak as they host Brighton at the King Power Stadium. The Foxes have struggled at home this season, losing to West Ham, Aston Villa and Fulham and look to lack fluency when playing against sides that sit deep against them. Their win over Sheffield United last weekend should be cause for optimism however going into this one. Brighton suffered a late defeat to rivals Southampton last weekend and will want a response here. They have reserved their best form for away trips and could prove to be a tough nut for Leicester to crack. The Foxes are a good side though and should come out on top here.
Betting tip: Leicester City to win the match
Leicester City to win 3-1
